Xona Space Systems has secured FCC authorization to broadcast its Pulsar navigation signals across a full satellite constellation. According to Payload, this marks the final regulatory barrier for the company, making it the only private entity permitted to broadcast in the heavily protected L-band alongside state-run systems like GPS.
Signal Integrity and Compatibility
The Pulsar system is designed to augment legacy GNSS infrastructure rather than replace it. Operating in the L-band—described by CEO Brian Manning as "beachfront property" due to its scarcity—ensures compatibility with over six billion existing user devices. Key technical advantages include:
