Venus Aerospace has secured $91 million in Series B funding to accelerate the development of its Rotating Detonation Rocket Engine (RDRE) technology. According to SpaceNews, the round was led by Mercury Fund, with significant participation from Lockheed Martin Ventures and a coalition of strategic investors including MESH and Draper Associates.

TECHNOLOGY PARAMETERS

Unlike traditional combustion cycles, an RDRE maintains a continuous detonation wave around a circular channel. This architecture offers theoretical gains in fuel efficiency and thrust density. Venus utilizes 3D-printed components and standard aerospace materials to ensure the hardware is compatible with domestic manufacturing pipelines. The resulting engine is designed to be reusable and throttleable, targeting a mission profile that spans hypersonic defense, orbital transfer vehicles, and lunar landers.

OPERATIONAL MILESTONES

This capital injection follows a successful proof-of-concept flight in May, where Venus conducted the first U.S. flight test of a 2,000-pound-thrust RDRE via a rocket launch at Spaceport America. The company's strategic position is further bolstered by the addition of former NASA Deputy Administrator Pam Melroy to its board of directors.

Beyond private capital, the Texas Space Commission recently allocated $3.9 million to the firm for the construction of a dedicated engine test facility in Houston. The Pentagon remains a primary observer of the project, as the search for reliable hypersonic propulsion remains a high-priority vector for modern defense logistics.
