Vast Recruits Aerospace Veteran Steve Isakowitz for LEO Station Offensive
Former Aerospace Corp. CEO Steve Isakowitz joins Vast as a senior adviser as the company maneuvers for NASA's Commercial LEO Destinations program.

Strategic Intel: Vast Reinforces Advisory Tier
Commercial orbital developer Vast has confirmed the appointment of Steve Isakowitz as a senior adviser. Isakowitz, the former president and CEO of The Aerospace Corp., joins the firm as it enters a high-stakes development phase for its private space station infrastructure.
According to SpaceNews, Isakowitz brings a deep-space pedigree that includes senior leadership roles at NASA, Virgin Galactic, and the Department of Energy. His arrival coincides with Vast's current integration work on Haven-1, a commercial outpost slated for launch in Q1 2027. Isakowitz noted that while the International Space Station era is concluding, the transition to private successors offers a critical opening for research and manufacturing partnerships.
The CLD Pivot
The move comes amid shifting tides within NASA’s Commercial Low Earth Orbit Destinations (CLD) program. NASA recently scrapped a "core module" concept in favor of maintaining competition between multiple private developers. Vast CEO Max Haot expects a draft request for proposals (RFP) shortly, emphasizing the necessity of redundancy in high-orbit assets.
Isakowitz characterized NASA’s recent policy shifts as typical for complex programs but stressed that consistency from the government is now vital. With private capital at risk, the industry requires clear, unwavering commitments to ensure a seamless transition before the ISS is retired in 2030. Vast aims to leverage Isakowitz’s technical and governmental expertise to navigate these regulatory waters while accelerating its iterative station development cycle.
