UK and Florida Launch Transatlantic Space Fund

Operational Expansion: The Transatlantic Pipeline

During the Farnborough Air Show, officials from the United Kingdom and Florida formalized a bilateral agreement to establish a £300,000 ($401,000) innovation fund. According to Payload, the capital is designed to bridge the gap between British innovators and the Florida aerospace ecosystem.

Backed by the UKSA’s International Bilateral Fund and Space Florida’s International Aerospace Innovation Fund, the initiative requires each funded project to have at least one partner headquartered in each region. The application window is scheduled to open this autumn, with final selections projected for early 2027.

Sector Targets and Strategy

While Florida remains the premiere global launch hub, this fund prioritizes high-tech orbital capabilities over simple lift services. Target sectors include:
Advanced space transportation
Satellite systems development
In-space research and manufacturing
In-space Servicing, Assembly, and Manufacturing (ISAM)

UKSA Director Rebecca Evernden stated that international collaboration is essential to British space ambitions, citing the need to open doors for researchers and companies to develop next-generation capabilities.

Seraphim Space: The Force Multiplier

Complementing the state-level fund, UK-based VC firm Seraphim Space has announced the second Florida cohort for its Investment Readiness Program. Five startups—including LEO Biosciences (biomanufacturing), RootMatrix Bio (crops), Satlantis (Earth Observation), Seagate Space (off-shore launch), and The Skyway Organization (autonomous infrastructure)—will receive mentorship to become "match-fit" for global investors.

As Seraphim’s Alexander Holt noted, the goal is to prevent the exodus of capital from Florida by educating local investors on the specific opportunities within the New Space economy.
