Terminal Access: GNSS Market Expansion

Commercial PNT startup TrustPoint has officially selected Sofia-based EnduroSat to manufacture its 40-satellite constellation. According to Payload, the agreement marks TrustPoint’s transition from technology demonstration to full-scale orbital operations. The fleet will be delivered in three distinct batches, with the first launch scheduled for no earlier than 2027. Full constellation deployment is projected within a 24-to-30-month window thereafter.

Technical Architecture: The C-Band Advantage

Unlike legacy GPS services that utilize L-band frequencies from Medium Earth Orbit (MEO), TrustPoint is deploying its hardware to Low Earth Orbit (LEO) using C-band signals. This strategic shift offers several operational advantages:

  • Atmospheric Resilience: C-band is less susceptible to ionospheric interference caused by solar storms and Earth weather, which frequently degrade L-band signals.
  • Regulatory Efficiency: The narrower C-band wavelength carries fewer regulatory hurdles, allowing for private PNT services without the protracted multinational negotiations required for L-band spectrum.
  • LEO Proximity: Operating closer to the surface ensures a stronger, more targeted signal for ground-based users.

Economic Viability

TrustPoint CEO Patrick Shannon highlighted that the company has already demonstrated its full tech stack via three demo flights, the most recent in 2025. By utilizing smaller, 10-kilogram satellites rather than multi-ton legacy platforms, TrustPoint aims to keep per-unit costs in the "low six figures."

This lean approach allows the startup to bypass the traditional billion-dollar price tag associated with global navigation systems, leveraging EnduroSat’s standardized satellite buses to achieve rapid, cost-effective scaling in a market previously dominated by government actors.
