IRVINE, CA — Terran Orbital, a wholly owned subsidiary of Lockheed Martin specializing in small-satellite solutions, has announced the appointment of Jamin Brown as Chief Operating Officer (COO). The move signals a strategic shift toward high-volume manufacturing and accelerated mission timelines.
According to SpaceNews, Brown will oversee operational execution at the company’s Irvine headquarters. His primary objective is to scale production capacity and optimize cost efficiency as the company addresses increasing demand from the aerospace and defense sectors. He will report directly to Peter Krauss, President and CEO of Terran Orbital.
Strategic Integration
Brown transitions to the role from Lockheed Martin Space, where he most recently served as Vice President of Missile Defense Programs and General Manager of the Huntsville site. During his two-decade tenure at Lockheed, Brown managed high-stakes portfolios including Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD), directed energy initiatives, and hypersonic defense systems.
His background in rapid prototyping—specifically his work on the Conventional Prompt Strike and Long-Range Hypersonic Weapon programs—is expected to be pivotal for Terran Orbital. The company aims to maintain its reputation for agility while adopting the industrial rigors of a major defense contractor.
Scaling for the Future
"Terran Orbital is entering an important phase in our evolution," stated CEO Peter Krauss, emphasizing that Brown’s expertise in complex technical organizations will be critical as the company scales. Brown holds degrees in Electronics Engineering and Industrial & Systems Engineering from San Jose State University, alongside an MBA and a Stanford University certification in program management.
