Tactical Hardware: Simera and Spacemanic Unveil 16U Dual-Use Imaging Solution
A new partnership between Simera Sense and Spacemanic merges the xScape200 DU camera with a custom 16U platform, challenging the dominance of heavy-lift satellite imaging.

Operational Integration: The 16U Frontline
In a move to disrupt the traditional mass-to-resolution ratio, Belgian optical specialist Simera Sense and Czech satellite manufacturer Spacemanic have announced a strategic collaboration. According to SpaceNews, the partnership focuses on a turn-key, dual-use mission architecture that integrates high-resolution imaging into a compact 16U CubeSat frame.
The Hardware Stack
At the core of the mission is the xScape200 Dual-Use (DU) camera. By utilizing a 12U form factor with low Size, Weight, and Power (SWaP) requirements, the system provides high-fidelity Earth observation data typically reserved for significantly larger platforms.
Spacemanic is providing more than just a bus; they have engineered a custom platform around the optical payload. By maintaining in-house control over the entire supply chain—including structures, thermal management, and data interfaces—Spacemanic has optimized the 16U envelope to accommodate the xScape200's requirements without the compromises of off-the-shelf standard frames.
Deployment Logistics
The mission is supported by the SPACE CANNON deployer. This hardware is designed for payloads with protruding elements and features removable side panels for late-stage access. Compatibility is confirmed for a wide array of European and international launch vehicles, including Ariane 6, Vega-C, RFA ONE, and Falcon 9.
Strategic Outlook
By streamlining the path from payload integration to orbit, this partnership targets the growing demand for rapid-response constellations in both commercial and defense sectors. The unified solution reduces launch costs while maintaining the high-resolution standards required for tactical surveillance.
