According to SpaceNews, the contract was facilitated through the Space Enterprise Consortium using an Other Transaction Authority (OTA). This procurement pathway bypasses traditional federal bureaucracy to accelerate the deployment of high-priority orbital technologies.
SYSTEM SPECIFICATIONS
The ESS program is the designated successor to the current Advanced Extremely High Frequency (AEHF) constellation. While Boeing holds a $2.8 billion contract to construct the initial ESS satellites, Sphinx Defense will provide the digital infrastructure required to manage these assets. The software suite will handle critical functions including:
- Mission Allocation: Dynamic tasking of satellite resources.
- Network Optimization: Maximizing throughput across the jam-resistant constellation.
- Strategic Resilience: Ensuring survivable communications for nuclear command and control (NC3).
