# Data Dominance: The Decadal Shift in Satcom

The global satellite services market is approaching a structural pivot. According to SpaceNews, citing the 33rd edition of Novaspace’s Satellite Connectivity and Video Market report, industry revenues are projected to climb 44%, reaching $145 billion by 2035.

The Death of Video Lead

The central narrative of the next decade is the obsolescence of video as the primary revenue driver. Data services, which currently account for 26% of the market, are expected to command a 68% share by 2035. While video distribution dominated capacity revenues in 2025, it is forecast to collapse to a mere 3% share within ten years.

Growth Engines: Defense and Broadband

Three sectors will anchor this $100 billion data market:
Consumer Broadband: Projected growth of $22.6 billion.
Milsatcom: Projected growth of $19.2 billion.
* Enterprise Networks: Projected growth of $17.2 billion.

Novaspace identifies Milsatcom as a critical strategic pillar, fueled by escalating defense budgets and the integration of resilient Non-Geostationary Orbit (NGSO) constellations into military operational frameworks.

Hybrid Architectures

The market is not strictly abandoning Geostationary (GEO) orbits. While NGSO capacity expands and bandwidth costs drop—allowing providers like Starlink to challenge terrestrial fiber—GEO orders saw a tactical rebound in 2025 and 2026. The future, per Novaspace Project Manager Dimitri Buchs, is a multi-orbit ecosystem. Software-defined satellites and flexible commercial models are repositioning GEO assets to serve specific, sovereign, or high-availability requirements alongside their LEO counterparts. By 2035, the total capacity market is expected to exceed $46 billion, tripling its current valuation.
