Rocket Lab's Electron returns to flight, delivering the QPS-SAR-13 synthetic aperture radar satellite to orbit for Japan’s iQPS constellation following a June engine scrub.

Rocket Lab has successfully returned to the pad, launching the eighth satellite for the Japanese firm Institute for Q-shu Pioneers of Space (iQPS). The mission, designated "The Grain Goddess Provides," saw an Electron launch vehicle lift off from Launch Complex 1 in New Zealand at 05:18 Eastern on August 6.
According to SpaceNews, the QPS-SAR-13 payload was deployed into a circular orbit at an altitude of 575 kilometers with a 42-degree inclination approximately 50 minutes post-ignition. This success marks a recovery for the private launch provider following a scrub on June 30, where the first-stage engines ignited but failed to lift off, resulting in an automatic abort. Rocket Lab has remained silent regarding the specific telemetry anomalies that led to the month-long delay.
Rapid Deployment Cycle
The iQPS constellation relies on high-resolution Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) for Earth observation. With this eighth successful delivery, the Japanese firm continues its aggressive build-out; ten more launches are currently under contract with Rocket Lab, three of which were secured as recently as July 30.
This mission represents Rocket Lab’s 13th flight of the year, a figure that includes three suborbital HASTE sorties. The manifest remains crowded, with the next Electron launch for iQPS scheduled for no earlier than late August. Despite the silence on the June abort causes, the quick turnaround indicates a robust technical resolution and a prioritized commitment to the Japanese radar sector.
