Munich-based startup Project-S has officially declassified its operations, emerging from stealth with a multi-million-euro capital injection. The company’s primary objective is to harden orbital security through high-fidelity space situational awareness (SSA) technology.
According to European Spaceflight, the funding round was spearheaded by Greek venture capital firm Uni.Fund II. This capital influx is earmarked for the development and deployment of active radar systems designed to detect and track orbital threats that currently bypass existing monitoring networks. Project-S aims to model the trajectories of smaller objects—specifically those in the sub-centimeter range—to mitigate collision risks for satellite operators.
Orbital Demonstration Imminent
Technical milestones are approaching rapidly. A company spokesperson confirmed that Project-S is preparing for its first in-orbit demonstration (IOD). The active radar hardware is scheduled for deployment next month, secured via a SpaceX Transporter rideshare mission.
This mission represents a critical pivot for European SSA capabilities. By integrating active radar sensors directly into orbit, Project-S intends to provide a more granular dataset than ground-based telescopes or long-range radar can currently offer. The ultimate goal is to generate predictive path models that allow active spacecraft to execute evasive maneuvers against previously invisible debris.
Status: Active Development. Hardware integration for the upcoming launch is finalized. Further data on sensor resolution is expected post-deployment.
