DATA FEED: CAPITAL ACCELERATION
Spanish launch services entity PLD Space has confirmed a significant expansion of its Series C funding, securing an additional €108 million to bolster its orbital ambitions. According to European Spaceflight, this latest capital injection brings the total Series C haul to €288 million, following an initial €180 million closure reported in March.
STRATEGIC ALLIANCES
The funding extension was led by Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, reinforcing the Japanese industrial giant's position as a primary backer of the Elche-based company. This financial momentum arrives at a critical juncture for the firm as it transitions from the success of its suborbital Miura 1 demonstrator to the development of the orbital-class Miura 5 rocket.
OPERATIONAL MILESTONES
Beyond private investment, PLD Space has recently secured substantial institutional support. Only days prior to this funding announcement, the European Space Agency (ESA) awarded the company a €158.9 million contract under the European Launcher Challenge. This contract is designed to diversify Europe's access to space by fostering competitive, commercial launch alternatives.
PLD Space is currently focusing on the final technical hurdles for the Miura 5. Recent milestones include preparations for flight termination system testing on the second stage. The company remains on track for the inaugural launch of the Miura 5 later this year, aiming to provide a domestic European solution for the small satellite market.
