# Signal to Intel: The Orbital Processing Shift

Traditional satellite architectures are failing the speed requirements of modern theater operations. Currently, raw sensor data must be transmitted to Earth, processed, and analyzed—a pipeline that can take hours. According to SpaceNews, Galileo Space is disrupting this latency by shifting the entire analytical load to the edge.

Autonomous Sensing and Edge AI

Galileo is engineering small satellites that utilize onboard AI to fuse sensor data directly in orbit. The objective is to convert electromagnetic signals into "answers" rather than raw data streams. The system is designed to operate autonomously for weeks, identifying and geolocating diverse threats including FPV drones, mobile radar units, and ballistic missile plumes. For search and rescue or satellite recovery, this reduces response times from days to minutes.

Engineering Pedigree

The startup leverages significant technical heritage. The leadership includes a CEO with a decade of U.S. national security space experience, a CTO who previously led RF radio development for SpaceX Starship, and a CSO who built global-scale machine learning infrastructure for Google and Amazon.

Mission Timeline

Galileo has been selected for the competitive a16z Speedrun program and is currently finalizing its inaugural government contract. A demonstration satellite is scheduled for launch in Q4 2027. This mission aims to validate the platform’s ability to deliver near-live intelligence, potentially securing Phase III government funding and expanding into commercial sectors requiring real-time signal monitoring.

By bypassing the "ground-segment bottleneck," Galileo intends to provide defense operators with the early warning necessary for survival in high-kinetic environments.
