Data fragmentation remains a critical bottleneck in environmental monitoring. Current nature-based projects often suffer from a disconnect between satellite observations and field-level reporting. According to SpaceNews, Australian firm LatConnect 60 (LC60) and Phi Earth Technologies have announced a strategic partnership to bridge this intelligence gap.
TECHNICAL INTEGRATION
The collaboration focuses on merging LC60’s Earth Observation (EO) capabilities with Phi Earth’s digital Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (dMRV) platform. The ultimate objective is the creation of an EO-enabled Digital Twin. By syncing satellite imagery with validated ground-truth data, the partners aim to provide project developers and carbon market investors with a continuous feedback loop that improves decision-making throughout the project lifecycle.
DEPLOYMENT AND HARDWARE
Initial operations will target biomass and regenerative agriculture projects in Australia and Malaysia, focusing on crops such as agave, sweet sorghum, and napier grass. These diverse environments will serve as a testing ground for LC60’s hardware capabilities.
Central to this effort is LC60’s SWIRSAT constellation, which utilizes Short Wave Infra Red (SWIR) sensors to track biomass growth, moisture levels, and carbon sequestration. The roadmap for this orbital infrastructure is aggressive:
- Q1 2027: Launch of the first two SWIRSAT units.
- 2029: Full constellation deployment consisting of 18 satellites.
The project maintains backing from the Australian Space Agency and the Government of Western Australia, signaling high-level support for high-integrity carbon data infrastructure.
