Open Cosmos Secures €300M to Scale European Satellite Production
European satellite manufacturer Open Cosmos has closed a €300M funding round to expand manufacturing facilities across the continent and accelerate its Earth observation and secure comms constellations.

# SCALE-UP PROTOCOL: OPEN COSMOS SECURES €300M
TRANSMISSION START. Open Cosmos has successfully closed a €300M ($348.6M) funding round, marking a significant injection of capital into the European satellite-manufacturing sector. The round underscores a shifting tide in the continental venture landscape, which has historically struggled to provide late-stage scale-up capital for space ventures.
According to Payload, the round was led by a consortium of European investors, including Lightrock, ETF Partners, Institut Català de Finances (ICF), and Entrepreneurs First. CEO Rafel Jorda Siquier emphasized the strategic necessity of European backing as the company builds critical infrastructure for the region.
Operational Expansion
The capital influx is earmarked for the expansion of four manufacturing facilities situated in the UK, Spain, Portugal, and Greece. The objective is to increase production throughput for three core service pillars:
- ConnectedCosmos: A secure LEO communications constellation.
- OpenConstellation: An Earth Observation (EO) network targeting a 30-minute latency for data delivery to decision-makers.
- Data Cosmos: A suite of high-resolution imagery and visualization tools.
Market Shift
The transaction follows a $450M Series C for The Exploration Company, signaling that European private investors are beginning to bridge the "scale-up gap." Data from the European Space Policy Institute previously indicated a total lack of European-led growth rounds in early 2025, but recent activity suggests a maturation of the ecosystem. Open Cosmos currently employs approximately 400 personnel across its engineering and software divisions, a headcount expected to grow as manufacturing scales.
STATUS: OPERATIONAL.
