Northwood Space Secures $375M Series C for Ground-Station Expansion
Ground infrastructure disruptor Northwood Space has reached a $2B valuation following a $375M Series C round aimed at scaling its modular, high-speed antenna network.

Network Expansion Secured
Northwood Space has finalized a $375M Series C funding round, elevating the company’s valuation to $2B. According to Payload, the round was co-led by a16z and DFJ Growth, with participation from Alpine Space Ventures, In-Q-Tel, and others. Total capital raised now exceeds $500M, complemented by a multi-year credit facility from HSBC Innovation Banking.
Operational Scaling
CEO Bridgit Mendler confirmed the capital is earmarked for team expansion and the rapid deployment of antennas. The objective is to surpass the scale of current global ground networks. This funding arrives just nine months after a $100M Series B, highlighting a high-velocity growth phase for the California-based firm.
Infrastructure and Hardware
Northwood’s strategy relies on modular, standardized hardware rather than bespoke installations. Recent technical milestones include:
Prism System: A parabolic dish designed for multi-gigabit links.
Portal Arrays: Demonstrations showed 10 Portal antennas can match the performance of a traditional 20-foot dish.
* Manufacturing: A new 185,000 sq. ft. facility in Torrance, CA, is now operational to mass-produce hundreds of units annually.
Strategic Contracts
In January, Northwood secured a $49.8M contract with the U.S. Space Force to support the Satellite Control Network, providing GEO satellite links. The company’s API-driven approach allows satellite operators to reserve capacity instantly, treating ground infrastructure as a scalable utility similar to terrestrial peering exchanges. By standardizing the network stack, Northwood aims to replace custom ground stations with rapidly deployable, freight-container-ready hardware.
