NEI UPLINK: BLACKSKY AND HEO EXTEND ORBITAL RECONNAISSANCE DEAL
BlackSky and HEO have signed a seven-figure deal to integrate Gen-3 satellite imagery into space domain awareness workflows, enhancing high-resolution tracking of orbital assets.

Operational Update: LEO Infrastructure Inspection
The strategic alliance between BlackSky Technology ($BKSY) and Australian non-Earth imaging (NEI) specialist HEO has transitioned from a pilot phase into a primary operational contract. According to Payload, the two entities have signed a seven-figure, one-year extension to provide high-fidelity orbital reconnaissance.
Sensor Fusion and Technical Upgrades
The core of the renewal involves the integration of BlackSky’s Gen-3 satellite constellation. While previous Gen-2 hardware provided one-meter resolution, the Gen-3 units offer 35-cm imagery. This 185% increase in fidelity allows HEO to identify specific satellite subsystems, document mechanical anomalies, and map the "pattern of life" for unknown orbital objects.
By leveraging the BlackSky fleet during "dark time"—periods when sensors are idle over oceans or Earth’s night side—HEO maintains constant coverage without disrupting primary Earth-imaging mission profiles. This automation pipeline significantly reduces latency between tasking and data delivery.
The SDA Growth Trajectory
BlackSky CEO Brian O’Toole noted that NEI has matured from a specialized proof-of-concept into a critical pillar of mainstream Space Domain Awareness (SDA). The renewal follows HEO’s recent $25M Series B funding round, which is intended to push their sensing capabilities into Geostationary Orbit (GEO).
As orbital congestion accelerates, the ability to inspect infrastructure without deploying dedicated, single-use inspector satellites becomes a logistical necessity. HEO currently operates over 50 sensors via partner platforms and hosted payloads, providing a scalable model for monitoring the increasingly crowded low-Earth environment.
