LUNAR OUTPOST EUROPE ENTERS MOONRAKER ORBIT FOR 2030

Lunar Outpost Europe, the Luxembourg-based subsidiary of the US-based rover manufacturer, has secured a critical role in the European Space Agency’s (ESA) Moonraker mission. Per reporting by Payload, the 2030 mission aims to deploy a satellite into lunar orbit equipped with LiDAR technology for high-resolution 3D mapping. Led by NUVIEW GmbH, the primary objective is to scout viable landing corridors at the lunar South Pole.

Thermal Strategy and R&D

In this consortium, Lunar Outpost Europe is tasked with delivering thermal management solutions essential for surviving the extreme temperature fluctuations of the lunar environment. Notably, the hardware is not a repurposed version of their existing rover tech. Instead, the company is developing the LUX-Thermal platform, a dedicated system designed to preserve sensitive electronics during the lunar night.

Before the 2030 lunar deployment, the firm will execute an in-orbit demonstration in Low Earth Orbit (LEO). This preliminary mission, supported by European Commission funding, is designed to establish flight heritage for the new thermal components.

Expanding Manifest

According to Payload, the Moonraker contract validates Lunar Outpost’s decision to establish a European hub and diversify revenue streams beyond NASA mandates. The company’s manifest currently lists nine missions through 2030, including:

By securing a slot in the Moonraker mission, Lunar Outpost Europe Cements its position as a key hardware supplier for both commercial and civil deep-space architecture.
