Australian E.O. specialist LatConnect 60 (LC60) has transitioned from hardware provider to data integrator. According to SpaceNews, the Perth-based firm recently unveiled a proprietary AI-fusion capability designed to merge disparate intelligence streams into a unified decision-support layer.

The technical shift follows heightened interest from Indo-Pacific defense and intelligence ministries regarding the upcoming SWIRSAT constellation. Supported by the Australian Space Agency, SWIRSAT is scheduled to deploy its first two Short-Wave Infrared (SWIR) units in Q1 2027, with long-term plans for an 18-satellite network.

The Data Synthesis Layer

LC60’s new AI engine does not operate in a vacuum. It is engineered to ingest and correlate SWIR imagery with synthetic aperture radar (SAR), radio-frequency (RF) signals, ground-based sensors, and human intelligence (HUMINT). By organizing these data points by temporal and geospatial coordinates, the platform allows analysts to identify corroboration—or conflict—between sources.

In practical maritime scenarios, the AI can cross-reference abnormal RF signals with radar-tracked coordinates and SWIR imagery. This allows operators to bypass atmospheric impediments like haze or smoke that typically blind standard optical sensors. This system acts as a "plug-in" for existing defense workflows rather than a replacement, maintaining data sovereignty for state actors.

Strategic Roadmap

CEO Venkat Pillay noted that customer demand for faster, confidence-based corroboration drove the evolution from raw sensing to "integrated decision intelligence." LC60 has now opened demonstrations and workshops for regional stakeholders. While current evaluations utilize proxy datasets, proprietary SWIRSAT telemetry will be integrated following the constellation's 2027 commissioning phase.
