According to SpaceNews, the Munich-based launch provider signed a definitive contract on July 7 with Maritime Launch Services (MLS) to develop a dedicated site at Spaceport Nova Scotia in Canso, Canada. This agreement secures the infrastructure necessary for the Spectrum rocket to achieve polar and sun-synchronous orbital delivery.

The Submarine Linkage

The activation of this agreement follows the Canadian government’s selection of Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) as the preferred supplier for its new submarine fleet. Isar’s partnership with TKMS serves as a critical industrial offset component of the submarine procurement program, integrating space capabilities into broader defense logistics.

Operational Parameters

MLS is tasked with constructing the primary launch pad, an integration facility, and a payload processing complex. The financial framework of the 10-year deal involves:

  • Lease Structure: $3.75 million quarterly payments.
  • Grace Period: A 30-month fee waiver following the first year of the contract.
  • Extension Options: Two five-year renewal clauses.

Sovereign Launch Landscape

Alexandre Dalloneau, Isar’s VP of mission and launch operations, framed the deal as a step toward end-to-end launch services for sovereign nations. This move coincides with the Canadian military's own C$200 million investment in MLS infrastructure and local rocket startups. By merging German propulsion technology with Canadian territory, Isar establishes a resilient alternative to European and American soil, effectively diversifying its mission profile against potential launch-site congestion in the Eastern Hemisphere.
