German launch startup HyImpulse is accelerating its suborbital testing phase. According to European Spaceflight, the company could attempt a second launch of its SR75 sounding rocket as early as 5 October. This follow-up mission comes on the heels of the successful "Light this Candle" debut in May 2024.
MISSION OBJECTIVES
The upcoming flight aims to further validate HyImpulse’s proprietary hybrid propulsion technology. The SR75 is a single-stage sounding rocket powered by a motor that utilizes solid paraffin (candle wax) and liquid oxygen. This combination is designed to offer a safer, more cost-effective alternative to traditional liquid or solid propellant systems.
INFRASTRUCTURE AND LOGISTICS
While the maiden flight took place from the Koonibba Test Range in Australia, HyImpulse has not officially confirmed the launch site for this second attempt. However, current notices indicate the early October window is the primary target for ignition. The SR75 serves as a critical technology demonstrator for the company’s larger goal: the SL1 orbital launch vehicle.
