Halifax-based Earth Observation (EO) specialist Galaxia has secured $4.5M CAD ($3.25M USD) in new funding to advance its software-defined satellite architecture. According to Payload, the round was co-led by Amiral Ventures and Invest Nova Scotia.

//Strategic Capabilities

Galaxia’s core mission targets a critical bottleneck in space-based intelligence: the delay between data capture and processing. By integrating edge-compute platforms directly into its satellite bus, the firm aims to deliver real-time insights to decision-makers. This infusion of capital follows a recent European partnership with Belgium’s Simera Sense, which integrated hyperspectral imaging capabilities into Galaxia’s existing systems.

//Sovereignty and Growth

The funding arrives as Canada intensifies its focus on sovereign space infrastructure, aligned with the nation's latest defense strategy. Galaxia plans to utilize the capital to:
Deploy new satellite hardware
Expand hybrid space networking nodes
* Scale sovereign manufacturing capabilities

//Proven Trajectory

Founded in 2020 by CEO Arad Gharagozli, Galaxia has transitioned rapidly from academic research to operational hardware. The team originally developed the LORIS nanosatellite in 2022 before launching the CSA-supported MÖBIUS-1 mission in 2025. Galaxia now joins other regional players like Kepler Communications in the race to establish resilient, optical-data-relay networks with onboard computing.

Beyond technical development, the firm is leveraging Canadian regional defense initiatives to upgrade its manufacturing facilities and aggressively target export markets, reinforcing the shift toward autonomous, rapid-response orbital intelligence.
