Canadian satellite operator Galaxia has secured the HyperScape100 hyperspectral imager from Belgian firm Simera Sense to bolster its commercial and defense Earth observation capabilities.

Canadian satellite platform developer Galaxia has finalized the acquisition of a HyperScape100 hyperspectral imaging payload from Belgian optical specialist Simera Sense. According to SpaceNews, the deal targets the expanding intersection of commercial, civil, and defense Earth observation (EO) requirements.
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
The HyperScape100 represents a shift toward software-defined orbital hardware. Designed for the strict mass and power envelopes of small satellite architectures, the unit allows operators to isolate 32 spectral bands from a total library of 400. This granular selection enables mission-specific optimization for environmental monitoring, maritime surveillance, and resource management.
Unlike standard multispectral systems, hyperspectral sensors capture data across hundreds of narrow wavelengths, facilitating the identification of chemical compositions and material changes invisible to conventional optics.
STRATEGIC ALIGNMENT
Galaxia CEO Arad Gharagozli cited the payload’s flight heritage and compact footprint as primary drivers for the selection. The move signals Galaxia's intent to provide more responsive, data-rich intelligence via its MissionOne program.
From a market perspective, the partnership reinforces the strengthening bridge between European hardware providers and the growing Canadian space sector. Thys Cronje, CCO of Simera Sense, noted that the investment reflects a global pivot toward high-performance, compact hyperspectral solutions as organizations move beyond traditional RGB imagery. The Leuven-based firm continues to solidify its position as a primary European supplier for smallsat optical payloads.
