According to SpaceNews, the expansion targets the acceleration of space-based energy and modular satellite infrastructure to bolster the American commercial orbit economy.

Loft Orbital, established in 2017, operates as an end-to-end satellite mission provider. By maintaining a localized inventory of verified satellite hardware, Loft permits clients to bypass traditional manufacturing lag, deploying payloads in months rather than years. With a foot in both San Francisco and Toulouse, France, the firm recently expanded via Orbitworks, a Middle Eastern joint venture intended to scale private space infrastructure.

Two of the new members focus on orbital power distribution:

• ▸Overview Energy: Operating out of Northern Virginia, this firm is developing geosynchronous solar harvesting. Using near-infrared light, they aim to beam 24/7 solar energy to terrestrial utility grids. A LEO demonstration mission is scheduled for 2028.
• ▸Star Catcher: This entity is constructing a dedicated in-orbit energy grid. By beaming concentrated solar energy directly to existing satellite solar panels, they claim a potential power increase of 2x to 10x without requiring hardware retrofits on client spacecraft.
