According to SpaceNews, the addition of these two entities signals a strategic shift toward specialized orbital logistics and scalable manufacturing within the U.S. commercial sector.
Reusable Microgravity Platforms
Outlier enters the federation with a focus on lowering the barrier to entry for biotechnology and pharmaceutical research. The company utilizes a proprietary reusable satellite platform designed for uncrewed orbital missions with guaranteed Earth-return capabilities. By automating payload integration and recovery, Outlier aims to stabilize the supply chain for advanced materials and life sciences that require prolonged exposure to microgravity. Parallel to Outlier’s logistics focus, Rendezvous Robotics is developing technology to bypass the volumetric constraints of current launch fairings. Their architecture utilizes magnetic self-assembly—a method previously tested aboard the International Space Station—to build spacecraft directly in orbit. This modular approach allows for reconfigurable assets that can expand based on mission requirements.
