Operational Shift: SDA Lab Transitions to BMC3I Focus

The Space Domain Awareness (SDA) Tools, Applications, and Processes (TAP) Lab has undergone a formal rebranding and structural evolution. Now operating as the BMC3I TAP Lab Colorado, the entity is pivoting toward Battle Management, Command, Control, Communications, and Space Intelligence (BMC3I) mission sets.

According to SpaceNews, the lab is launching a new multi-phased initiative in partnership with the Catalyst Campus for Technology and Innovation (CCTI). The program is specifically engineered to integrate commercial technical solutions into government-led space operations at an accelerated pace.

Mission Catalyst Summit: The Intake Vector

The protocol begins with the Mission Catalyst Summit, scheduled for 21–23 July 2026, in Colorado Springs. This three-day event acts as the primary atmospheric entry point for commercial innovators. It provides direct access to Lab leadership and a classified-adjacent overview of current operational bottlenecks and priority mission challenges.

Technical Alignment: Phase 1 Activation

Transitioning from the summit, the program moves into Phase 1, characterized as a intensive six-week cohort experience for Focus Area Cohort Teams (FACTs). This phase focuses on technical alignment and customer discovery. Participating entities will engage in a hybrid schedule of virtual and in-person workshops, leveraging subject matter expert (SME) consultations to refine their hardware and software for the BMC3I ecosystem.

Through this streamlined pathway, the lab aims to dismantle traditional barriers for technology transition. By fostering collaboration between CCTI’s scouting resources and government mission owners, the initiative looks to turn nascent commercial prototypes into deployable orbital assets.
